When members of our military return home today they benefit from a positive reception, one very different than after Vietnam. As a veteran of that war I am very pleased to see this change. We all need to respect the sacrifices that our men and women in uniform – and their families – make in service to our nation. As our role in the Middle East winds down, hundreds of thousands of our military will be returning to civilian life. When they do, they will need our support in making this transition. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, unemployment among all veterans stands at 6.3 percent. But the reality is far harsher. The jobless rate for Post-9/11 veterans was at 10 percent in October. Yet, according to Army Times, there is a major disparity in the jobless rate based on gender: 9.2 percent for males
